Physical Description
Cassie has her brown hair cut into a bob haircut, with bangs that she frequently needs to brush out of her blue eyes that are constantly shifting around whatever room they are in. She has extremely pale skin, which has a handful of scars throughout (a couple of scars on her left shoulder, signs from a surgery to repair a torn labrum at some point in her life, as well as some scrapes on her forearm and hands from fights throughout her life). She has an underbite that results in a naturally jutting lower jaw, and the eyetooth on the right side of her mouth is missing, having been knocked out sometime in the last few months. She usually matches her daughter's ring gear, although she prefers well-worn black boots that no longer maintain a shine.
Biography & Background
A fourth-generation wrestler and the middle child between Simon and Raphael Rhodes, Cassandra Rhodes was actually the first to break out, debuting in 1997 at the age of 17 and immediately becoming a star throughout Europe and Japan. Initially brought along with her aunt Irene to gain experience, Cassie soon gained a reputation for her high energy and quick paced matches, as well as her risk taking. It was clear that Cassie was no ordinary rookie, and she began to get treated accordingly, getting shots at titles way sooner than one would expect.
Then, in early-July 1999, she got extremely sick after a match in Nagoya, Japan. Going to the local hospital, she was asked if she was pregnant. That was how she found out that she had wrestled while three months' pregnant, and immediately went on hiatus. On Christmas Day 1999, Cassie was in a hospital back in England, delivering baby daughter Sophie. Cassie had thought that she would return to wrestling once Sophie was able to be left with a family member, like other Rhodes family members had done, but instead she opted to dote on her daughter.
Raising Sophie as a single mother, Cassie essentially sacrificed her career for Sophie, spoiling her as she was being raised and completely leaving wrestling behind. It wasn't until Sophie was 14 that she realized her mother had been in the family business at one point, and was actually on the verge of being a championship-caliber wrestler. At that moment, Sophie encouraged her mom to train for a comeback, and Sophie would train with her.
Inspirational, right? Well... the years away from the ring made Cassie bitter at seeing how the landscape had changed while she was gone, and instead she lashed out, rejecting her quick grappling in favor of a chaotic approach. Terrorizing the rings of England, she was soon joined by Sophie, whose attitude got her labeled as a spoiled brat. The two soon decided to lean into their reputations, forming a duo that started traveling the world, mother and daughter determined to serve as a wrecking crew to anyone who gets in their path. They appeared in the AWA in February 2018, initially as a one-time appearance, but formally joined the roster in April 2018 after finishing their previously contracted dates.
Strengths
Ambidextrous. Cassie was blessed to be just as capable with her left hand as her right, and that is useful in a sport like wrestling. Opponents who focus just on one limb often end up surprised when Cassie hits just as hard with the opposite side.
- Creatively chaotic. Cassie thrives in causing mass confusion, and finds unique ways to attack opponents using whatever she possibly has at her disposal.
- In great health. One would expect that a wrestler of her age to have a litany of injuries, but due to Cassie's layoff due to raising Sophie as well as great habits in terms of training and recovery, Cassie is in great shape.
Weaknesses
Prone to disqualification. Due to her mercurial temper and violent in-ring style, she tends to not listen to officials. This leaves her open to disqualification more often than not.
- Easily overpowered. Cassie isn't going to win any tests of strength, especially against the larger AWA Women's Division roster. If someone can grab hold of her and throw her, Cassie doesn't have much to prevent it from happening.
- Never has a gameplan. Rather than plan on her opponents and finding out their weaknesses, Cassie has always operated by feeling and creating a wild scene. This means that everything looks like a nail because Cassie only has a hammer, and some opponents can't be beaten just by being unorthodox.
In-Ring Style & Influences
middle aged and crazy era Terry Funk mixed with mid-2000s run Finlay
Character & Presentation
crazed, sadistic heel
In-Ring Repertoire
Finisher
Topsy-Turvy (fisherman's buster; she had previously used a brainbuster as the Topsy-Turvy, but is opting for a fisherman's buster in the AWA due to the size of the competitors on the roster necessitating the cradled leg to get the leverage for the move)
sleeper hold (a Rhodes family trademark, Cassie's is just as lethal as baby brother Raph's)
MDK Finisher
one of the ugliest moonsaults you've ever seen in your life, complete with fear that she may not rotate fully; impactful due to that her knees usually bash the opponent on the chest/head as opposed to an actual graceful execution of the move
Signature Moves
Stubshaw Cross (straight punch with either hand, typically loaded with brass knuckles, piece of steel, or any other type of weapon. Named for the Stubshaw Cross neighborhood in Ashton-in-Makerfield)
using the environment as a weapon (stopping a baseball slide by pulling the ring skirt and snaring the opponent in between the skirt and the ring apron is a favorite, but Cassie also enjoys using loose cables to tie people up or grabbing random tools
pieces of rebar, wrenches, screwdrivers - and using them as weapons as well. If it's not nailed down, Cassie will grab it and throw it or swing it)
putting fingers where they don't belong (fishhooking, ripping at nostrils, eye gouging, and the like)
leverage cradles (Cassie never found a set of ropes that she didn't like to put her feet on or grab for an advantage)
hangman's neckbreaker (a la Rick Rude and the Rude Awakening, complete with a cackle after hitting and thus negating a little of the impact of the move, but Cassie hits this with such velocity and snap that it's impressive nonetheless)
Other Moves
Cassie doesn't really have a defined moveset, as she's primarily a brawler, and her grappling is "grab a body part and bend it the wrong way" rather than focusing on any set move. She CAN do moves crisply and CAN be capable of big things, but she's settled into a style of wreaking havoc and having an undefined moveset fits that better.
