Physical Description
She has an athletic build, brown eyes and black hair that just touches her shoulders (she pulls her hair behind her head while wrestling). When wrestling, she wears a dark blue leotard with matching kneepads and wrestling boots. To the ring, she wears a red, white and blue track suit with the words "DAVIS #1" on the back in blue lettering. When she's not wrestling, she usually wears pantsuits and blouses.
Biography & Background
Laura Davis was an excellent athlete in high school and was strong in every sport she participated -- volleyball, cross country, track, softball, tennis, and even a stint in freestyle wrestling. But her biggest love was basketball, and her size, speed and shooting ability made her sought after in that sport for the collegiate ranks. She signed with Indiana State University and spent two years there, but a knee injury at the end of her second year not only sidelined her, but put her behind other players who came along. Having lost some speed and agility, Davis decided to leave the team.
However, she stayed active by playing recreational tennis and tried her hand at freestyle wrestling again. While completing her studies at Indiana State, a couple of pro wrestling scouts noticed her during a freestyle wrestling tournament and suggested she try pro wrestling.
Davis took to her studies quickly, but her strong belief in submissions and technical know-how, and her disdain for other styles of wrestling, put her into conflict with other students. However, she impressed her instructors and graduated as one of the top students.
She made her mark in multiple promotions early in her career. She was one of the first addition to NEO-Pro's women's division, ventured to Japan to participate in Project BATTLE*DREAM, and had stints in IGA and NAWC, before making her mark in the Universal Wrestling Federation. It was there that she won her first major women's title and joined Taylor Mackenzie and Scottie Saratoga in forming the Trinity.
After UWF closed its doors, Davis turned her attentions back to Japan. She crossed paths multiple times with a rival of hers from UWF, Miyuki Ozaki. But through the years, the two gained respect for one another and Ozaki made it a point to invite Davis to participate in multiple events and tournaments she organized -- most notably, the Empress Cup.
Davis became popular in Japan and figured she had found her place in the wrestling world. However, that's when the AWA formed its own women's division and the Korugun Corporation saw her as somebody who could add star power to the ranks.
And, thus, Davis has made her way back to the United States -- still, to this day, holding the philosophy that few in women's wrestling are what she views to be a "real" wrestler or can match up to an "all-around athlete" such as herself.
Entrance & Presentation
[The lights dim and the opening chords of Jorge Quintero's "300 Violin Orchestra" play over the PA system. Up on the giant videoscreen, a scrambled image comes up and, as the violins reach the crescendo, the image forms words that simply read:
"DAVIS #1"
Then, as the orchestral music starts up again, two spotlights hit the entranceway and, standing there, is none other than the person about to be introduced.]
RA: Introducing, from Indianapolis, Indiana, and weighing 150 pounds... ladies and gentlemen... this is "THE ALL AROUND ATHLETE" LAURA DAVIS!
[Laura Davis has her back toward the crowd, her arms spread to the sides. She is wearing a red, white and blue track suit, and on the back on her jacket in blue lettering are the same letters on the videoscreen..
"DAVIS #1"
Davis then turns around, a serious look etched on her face. The woman with brown, shoulder-length hair pulled behind her head and with brown eyes, lowers her arms, and walks down the aisle, her gaze fixed on the ring ahead, the spotlights following her.
When she reaches ringside, she stops, raises her arms again, curls her hands into fists, then extends her thumbs so they point toward the lettering on the back of her jacket. The arena lights come back up and the spotlights fade.
She lowers her arms, ascends the ring steps, ducks between the ropes and spreads her arms once more. Davis unzips her jacket and removes her pants, revealing her wrestling attire, which consists of a dark blue leotard with matching elbow pads and wrestling boots.]
In-Ring Repertoire
Finisher
Heel hookThe opponent is down on her back and she grabs the opponent's leg, squeezes it between her own legs, then grabs the heel and hooks it with her hands, then pulls back. She will try to pin the opponent's free leg down underneath her own legs to keep the opponent from using it to free herself.Setup move: To set up the heel hook, it's either a dragon screw legwhip, followed by applying the hold, or if the opponent is down on the mat, Davis will grab the opponent's ankle and snap it back (might do it more than once if she's facing a top opponent), before grabbing the leg again to apply the hold.
MDK Finisher
finisher: ScrewdriverShe lifts the opponent up as if going for a vertical suplex, only when she lifts the opponent straight overhead, she lets go, dropping the opponent straight down, catching the opponent in tombstone piledriver position and sitting down, driving the opponent's head into the mat.David should seldom pull this move out -- if she does use it, the match is over.
Signature Moves
Series of kneelifts with the opponent trapped in the corner.
Jumping neck snap
Dragon screw legwhip (not only used to set up the finisher, but it allows her to get the opponent to the mat to set up for other submission attempts)
Snap suplex (she doesn't hesitate -- as soon as she cinches the front facelock, she takes her over in a quick motion)
Once in a while, she'll look to the crowd, spread her arms to the side, then hook her thumbs toward herself, letting them know she's the best.
Whenever she has an opponent in a submission hold and the opponent gets to the ropes, she will always work the count as long as she can, releasing the hold just before she could be disqualified.
Other Moves
Reverse anklelock submission
Fujiwara armbar
Figure-four sleeper (she wraps her legs around the opponent's head while the opponent is down on the mat, one calf under the chin, legs crossed so it forms a figure four around the opponent's head)
