Biography & Background
Charlie Stephens is a private in the U.S. Army, based out of Fort Drum near Watertown, New York. Stephens never got a chance to see combat, but he used his time in the military to learn how to wrestle. Sometimes he would get into fights off(and sometimes on) base, but thanks to some officers he knew, he would get those knocked off his record.
Still, he was well regarded in his battalion with his hand-to-hand combat and amateur wrestling skills. It was suggested by his fellow soldiers that he try MMA once his service time was up, but he chose not to do it. A lifelong interest in professional wrestling led him to local promotions in upstate New York. After awhile, it wasn't paying the bills and he wanted to think bigger.
Noticing that professional wrestling was lacking in the way of patrotic heroes, Stephens signed up for the AWA in hopes that he can be that wrestling patriot. However, at first he wasn't very successful. Despite the skills he picked up in the Army, he wasn't able to keep up with most of the higher level wrestlers in the AWA, frequently looking up at the lights.
Joe Flint eventually signed with the AWA after a long career, and he was looking for a tag team partner. After noticing that Stephens lost a match, Flint offered his assistance in installing American Pride into the AWA, and a new team was born. Flint is the teacher, and Stephens is the student. Learning under Joe Flint, who was trained by Hamilton Graham, will only be a boon for a man still looking to make his mark.
However, things started to change during the AWA European tour in 2016. Flint had to stay behind to deal with a lawsuit, and Stephens traveled Europe alongside longtime preliminary wrestler "Outback" Zack Kelly. During the tour, the duo had no success, and with each loss, Stephens grew more and more frustrated. The tense political climate in Europe and stateside also started affecting Stephens. Eventually, the tour was over and the AWA returned to the States. Both Flint and Stephens were extremely frustrated, but tried to put on a front for the AWA faithful. However, both men came up with an idea in a conversation after a recent match...
TAG TEAM PROFILE:
Surprisingly quick. Doesn't look like much of a high flyer, and he won't go to the air too often, but he can quickly take an opponent down and go from hold to hold pretty fast. Can snatch victory out of thin air with a quick flash pinfall. He doesn't give the opponent much time to breathe, to a point. He'll even sneak in a few punches or chokes.Three Weaknesses:
Entrance & Presentation
[A loud crackling noise is heard, slowly fading into a piercing buzz, as a distorted voice is heard shouting out partial lyrics to "My Country 'Tis of Thee"]
# Land where my fathers died!
# Land of the pilgrim's pride!
# From every mountain side,
# Let freedom ring!
[The 'ring' starts echoing, and it starts resembling an actual ringing sound. Suddenly, the ringing sound fades perfectly into the opening guitar riff by Ted Nugent of the Damn Yankees, as "Don't Tread on Me" by the early 90s super group Nugent played guitar for starts playing over the PA to a loud chorus of boos.]
MC: Heading to the ring.. Hailing from Watertown, New York and weighing in at two-hundred and fourty-one pounds... here is a member of the Soldiers of Fortune..
...CHARLIE STEPHENS!
[Stephens steps out, holding a flagpole with the American flag waving at the top of it. He wears a pair of blue jeans, with a tear right above the left knee, and a black t-shirt with the Soldiers of Fortune logo across the chest(Punisher Skull with an American Flag pattern). He wears a pair of black boots underneath the jeans.]
[Stephens is all business as he steps to the ring, the American flag waving in the air as he stomps towards the ring, focused on the task at hand. The boos from the crowd do not bother him, in fact, they serve as a reminder that the fans do not share the same vision of the United States that he does. Once he reaches ringside, he places the flag at ringside. He quickly slides into the ring underneath the bottom rope, quickly scrambling to his feet. He leans against the corner as the boos rain down on him. He smirks as he streches against the ropes.]
